"IITians for ITI" program is envisioned to improve the quality of training at the select "Center Of Excellence" ITIs and drive sustainable excellence in India’s vocational/technical training. The program will consist of many simultaneous projects at different ITIs around India. The PanIIT Organization is uniquely positioned to make the program a success. PanIIT can leverage the IIT brand to work with government agencies to clear roadblocks and solicit support.

‘IITians for ITI’ program is inspired by a recommendation by Pan-IIT Executive Board for India—‘to create institutes similar to IITs that train highly skilled technicians.’

How will the program operate:

This program is contingent upon the active involvement of local IIT alumni, who will work at the local level, mentoring an Institute’s principal, its instructors, students and also liaise with the local industry. Other IITians will support the local IIT Alumni by taking up program administration, governance and monitoring, as well as by financially contributing for instructor training, equipment and student scholarships.

The ‘IITians for ITI’ program envisages:

  • Identification of IIT-alumni volunteers who wish to contribute to ITIs.
  • Initially concentrating on the ‘Centers of Excellence’ jointly identified by the Central and the State Governments.
  • Association of these volunteers with the management committees of the the respective ITIs.
  • Drawing up of appropriate ‘Short and Long Term Upgradation Plans’ by the institute management committees in association with the local industry and the Directorates of Training of State & Central Government.

The long term objective envisions covering 100s of ITIs nationwide.
